Research that distinguishes paradigm-shifting innovation from incremental advance — and engagement that puts that evidence to work.
Our research pushes the frontiers of knowledge on how innovation emerges, how it is financed, and what determines whether genuinely transformative ideas succeed. We develop novel datasets, measures and analytical approaches that allow us to distinguish frontier and paradigm-shifting innovation from more incremental advances. A particular focus of our work is understanding how capital markets, investors, institutions and organisational systems influence the types of innovation that are pursued, financed and scaled, and uncovering the complex, and sometimes counterintuitive, trade-offs involved in supporting breakthrough innovation.
We complement this research with active engagement across the innovation ecosystem, particularly within the Indo-Pacific region. We bring together leaders from research, investment, industry, entrepreneurship, government and policy through deliberately designed forums and other collaborative initiatives that enable different parts of the ecosystem to exchange perspectives, identify shared challenges and learn from one another. Frontier research and evidence are embedded directly into these conversations, creating a two-way flow in which research informs practice while the experiences of decision-makers help identify new questions, constraints and opportunities for research. We also work with industry and other partners to develop experimental approaches to innovation challenges that seek to identify, test and advance unconventional ideas with the potential for transformative impact.
Ultimately, our work is directed towards strengthening the conditions under which frontier innovation can emerge, attract support, progress from idea to application, and scale successfully. By combining rigorous research with structured engagement and experimentation, we aim to contribute to more dynamic and effective innovation systems and, through them, to productivity, competitiveness and long-term prosperity across the region and beyond.
